Oregon Korean War Memorial Interpretive Center

Donate to KWMFO

The Korean War Memorial Foundation of Oregon (KWMFO) began the initial design phase of the Korean War Memorial Interpretive Center late in 2020. Throughout 2021-22, interrupted by the Covid pandemic, we began putting ideas to paper and collecting photos and materials for the project. A nationally known design and build company, Formations, Inc., was selected for the project. The City of Wilsonville graciously agreed to house the Interpretive Center inside the Parks & Recreation Building, adjacent to the Memorial. Our fundraising goal of $190,000 was achieved in short order through the generous donations of veterans, organizations, grants, and the Korean Government. The 350 square-foot Interpretive Center includes 24 personal video interviews with Korean War veterans (translated in both Korean and English), photo displays of selected veterans as young men and women, a centrally displayed topographical map showing locations of famous battles and landmarks, a display of artifacts used by service members during the War, and some interesting and entertaining stories about “Tootsie Rolls” and a horse named “Sergeant Reckless.” We hope that the Interpretive Center, which opened on June 29, 2024, provides an educational experience that will help visitors understand and appreciate the Memorial and those who served in, and those who were impacted by, the Korean War.
